February Nutrition Challenge

February is for food.

Not fear. Not restriction. Not “starting over Monday.”
Food.

This month inside Built, we’re focusing on balanced eating, nutrition education, and smarter decision-making — because what you eat directly impacts your strength, recovery, energy, and results.

In a world full of nutrition misinformation and miracle hacks, the goal isn’t perfection.
It’s clarity.

Why This Nutrition Challenge Matters

Nutrition is one of the biggest performance levers you can pull.

Depending on your goals, that might mean:

  • Increasing protein intake for muscle growth

  • Improving fruit and vegetable consumption

  • Reducing alcohol intake

  • Learning how to read nutrition labels

  • Understanding which supplements actually work

Most people don’t fail because they lack discipline.
They struggle because they lack accurate information.

This month, we fix that.

What We’re Working On

1️⃣ Balanced Eating (Using MyPlate)

We’re using the USDA MyPlate framework to better understand food groups and portion balance.

No, “a plate full of carbs” is not technically a food group.

The goal is to understand:

  • How much protein you actually need

  • Why fruits and vegetables matter

  • How whole grains differ from refined grains

  • Where dairy fits in

2️⃣ Label Literacy

Understanding nutrition labels is one of the most powerful skills you can develop.

We’re covering:

  • Serving sizes vs. actual intake

  • Added sugars

  • Fiber and protein benchmarks

  • Ingredient list red flags

When you understand labels, you stop guessing.

3️⃣ Smart Snacking

Snacking doesn’t derail progress.
Mindless snacking does.

We’re partnering with local businesses to provide:

  • Sample products

  • Discounted options

  • Higher-protein snack alternatives

Because practical change > theoretical advice.

4️⃣ Alcohol & Ergogenic Aids

This one matters more than people think.

We’re discussing:

  • Alcohol’s impact on recovery and fat loss

  • AUD spectrum awareness

  • Supplement protocols

  • What actually works vs. what’s hype

Evidence-based supplementation can help.
Random TikTok recommendations? Probably not.

Challenge #1 (Due Sunday)

Participation is limited to NJB Training clients, but anyone is welcome to follow along and challenge themselves.

Complete the MyPlate Food Group Quizzes and send proof (screenshots are perfect).

Understanding why each food group matters — and how much you need — builds a foundation for everything else.

Proof required.

Secret prize included.

Yes, it’s real. No, I’m not telling you what it is.

A Quick Note

I’m a certified nutritionist, not a licensed dietitian.
Always consult your physician before making significant dietary changes.

Let’s Level Up

Nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated.

It has to be intentional.

Let’s build smarter habits this month.
